Process

Problem statement

Modern dating sucks.

Despite being fast and convenient, dating apps have prioritized quantity (connecting to lots of people quickly) over quality (creating new, meaningful connections).

Phase 01: Research—Understanding current pain points in online-dating

The image above summarizes the pain points and goals I found from the research I conducted.

My main takeaway was to design a method that quickly brought users together to meet in person.

Phase 02: Sketches and mock-ups

From sketch exploration, I found I wanted to design two devices that could connect to one another, similarly to nostalgic handheld gaming devices like Tamagotchis, Gameboy Advances, etc.

I also experimented the comfortability of different configurations for a screen and buttons.
